We are using Extra! PC (Attachmate) for 3270 emulation.

Anyone know if it is capable using encryption for TN3270E access to z/OS
v1.4?

Thanks,
Craig

Hi Craig,

Attachmate says it will - depending on what product/version you have. I'm working on setting it up right now, using Extra! Xtreme V8. Making (some) progress. Currently receiving RCODE=6002, handshake failed. It's my first foray into gskkyman, so I'm probably doing something wrong. I'm about to get Attachmate Tech. Support involved 'cause I don't see a way to import the server certificate. Also, see IBM info APAR II13369, which describes common problems with TN3270 SSL. That document also references some Redbooks that may help with setup/debugging. Let me know how you do.

Hope this helps!

Unfortunately, we have Extra! Personal Client. I can not find it on the
Attachmate web page, don't know what it would cost to upgrade and can't
spend money on m/f software anyway, and besides, we are not allowed to talk
to vendors.

I will however look at the apar and Redbook.

Thanks,
Craig

It is sometimes possible to add SSL tunneling to PC applications. I
don't recommend it and refuse to support it, but it might be within
your budget. Google for "stunnel". I did this on a Linux PC/client for
testing when we implemented SSL/Tn3270 using the the standard X3270
client.
