OS/390 on z990

Hi

To run OS/390 or z/OS 1.4 on a z990 you need to apply a number of fixes
Can these and older copies run under z/VM on a z990 without the fixes?

We may have to load an older system on our z990
How would we go about it.

Jan,
At a previous employer, when we installed a z800, we asked the same
questions and were told that we would need to install the hardware PSP
bucket for OS/390 2.10, so I would assume that will be your situation as
well.

The situation is not exactly the same.
In the past IBM claimed that z/800 can run any supported system. That
meant OS/390 V2R9 which was the oldest supported os level. This was
official. In fact you could run older (unsupported) versions.
z/990 is another issue: systems older than OS/390 V2R10 will not run on
z/990.
I'm not sure but I think that MVS system running as a guest will need
the same service level as MVS running in LPAR.

No. While z/VM hides a lot of things, you will get into trouble without the
z990 support. You will absolutely get in trouble without OW56730, and
others fixes are in the same category.
