Discussion:
LPAR Weights

Customer is running two 2064-2c1's with z/OS V1.4

There is no IRD - can LPAR weights be changed and implemented without an IPL
of the impacted LPAR's or is an IPL required?

Yes you can make changes to LPAR weights without an IPL. Make the changes
at your HMC, save them and also do an Apply to Running System.

The HMC documentation is on the HMC and can be viewed on the web at

http://www.ibm.com/servers/eserver/zseries/zos/bkserv/hwpdf/

Look for HMC Operations Guide for your machine the section CPC Operational
Customization
under chapter Tasks.

Thanks, Sam

Found the answer in the manual you recommended. Thank you very much.

Andrew you do a great job marketing the Tivoli products - thanks for the
information and the effort.

For an automated and supported method of changing these values, see the new
SA23 Proc Ops apar OA09982 (and its pre-reqs). I've included some of what it
does below.

And if anyone wants to know more about anything NetView or SA related, just
contact me off list.
=====
Abstracts:

- New ISQCCMD Common Commands for Target Hardware and Target Systems
connected with SNMP.

- Added Common Commands:
. PROFILE - Read/Update HW Activation Profiles (RESET,IMAGE,LOAD)
. CPCDATA - Query CPC configuration data, including LPAR information
. ICNTL - Perform HMC task 'Change LPAR controls' with ProcOps
. CCNTL - Set a default RESET Activation Profile (HMC task: Assign
Profile)
. RESERVE - Reserve/Release SE HW Command access

- IPL functions added:
. Load of operating systems from a SAN attached SCSI device. This
support is implemented for IPLs performed with LOAD or IMAGE
profiles only.

- Automated LPAR controls:
. The WLM used LPAR values, such as DEFINED CAPACITY, MINIMUM-,
MAXIMUM PROCESSING WEIGHT, and PR/SM used LPAR values, such as
INITIAL PROCESSING WEIGHT or CAPPING FLAG can be queried or set
using the new ProcOps Common Command ICNTL.

This would be a lot more exciting if it was implemented in the BCP as base
z/OS function on any zSeries processor secured with native SAF controls and
was a documented command interface available to anyone with z/OS running any
automation package or authoring their own code:-(

No IPL required.
You have to check the right box to
ensure it takes place immediately.
Otherise, it will take place upon de/re-activate.

Thank you for that Ted. I should have included you in the original thank
you note but must have missed your response amongst all the posts detailing
the correct use of English or was it Canadiana?? :-)

Perhaps the problem is over-communications?

Thanks again
