What's Needed in Linklst?

I am running into a documentation issue.

Apparently we have not kept up on what IBM has added to the LINKLST over the years. Is there a doc somewhere that states all the libraries that IBM wants in the LINKLST as of z/OS V1.9? I have been reviewing the REDBOOKs and other manuals, but do not find a current list.

What I am missing todate I think are

SYS1.SIEALNKE
SYS1.SIEAMIGE

Not sure if there are others.

The CPAC PROG00 member did not show it included. However, some of my research seems to show it should be.

Hum, interesting question. I did find the following in the z/OS 1.10 "Init and Tuning" manual:

<quote>
Use the LNKLSTxx member of parmlib to specify the program libraries that
are to be concatenated to SYS1.LINKLIB to form the LNKLST concatenation.
In addition to the data sets you specify in LNKLSTxx, the system
automatically concatenates data sets SYS1.MIGLIB, SYS1.CSSLIB,
SYS1.SIEALNKE and SYS1.SIEAMIGE to SYS1.LINKLIB.
</quote>

I'd be interested in the doc too, but my serverpac SYS1.CPAC.PARMLIB(PROG00) from 1.10 does have the libraries in it that you mention.

I don’t actually run with SYS1.CPAC.PARMLIB, but as part of the upgrade, I compare what is in my LINKLST,APFLIST with what IBM put in the serverpac version, and add those to mine.

I always thought these were the PDSEs created to hold the program
objects that couldn't be linked into SYS1.LINKLIB and SYS1.MIGLIB.

Lizette,

Another thing to think about if you are adding libraries is
RACF or equivalent PROGRAM CLASS.

Here is whats in mine:

CBC.SCBCCMP
CBC.SCLBDLL
CEE.SCEERUN
CEE.SCEERUN2
CSF.SCSFMOD0
CSF.SCSFMOD1
DB2.DSNEXIT
DB2.DSNLOAD
GLD.SGLDLNK
GSK.SGSKLOAD
ICA.SICALMOD
IOE.SIOELMOD
SAG.ADA743.LOAD
SAG.ADA743B.LOAD
SAG.NAT424.LOAD
SAG.NDV225.LOAD
SSW.DMS.LOADLIB
SYS1.CSSLIB
SYS1.LINKLIB
SYS1.MIGLIB
SYS1.SIEALNKE
SYS2.MVSA.CA1.CAILIB
TCPIP.SEZALINK
TCPIP.SEZALOAD

Note this and the LINKLST I sen earlier are at
z/OS 1.9

Hi Richard,

A quick aside - CBC.SCBCCMP is the old OS/390 C/C++ compiler, which has
not been enhanced since 2000. The current compiler, the z/OS XL C/C++
compiler, is in CBC.SCCNCMP. This compiler has been enhanced in almost
every release since z/OS V1.2.

Thanks,

I had missed that change.
I guess we don't have anything that needs to use it in
a controlled environment or I would have gotten an error.

I will fix this.

As others have indicated, the two named libraries do appear to be included
in (at least) the 1.9 CPAC.PARMLIB(PROG00). Setting aside the question of
whether they need to be there or are automatically included by the system
on any search, you might try to track down why your PROG00 is different.

As part of building a new IPLable and migratable system from ServerPac, we
construct a concatenation of CPAC-derived members for both linklist and
APFlist. Each concatenation also includes members for non-sysres libraries
for ISV and installation load libraries. If you do this sort of thing
routinely for each new ServerPac, you will tend to stay current.

In the CustomPac Dialog, you can use the View and Change option to
display the lists of link list eligible and LPA list eligible data sets.
If I recall correctly, the ServerPac-provided link list should contain
all the link list eligible data sets that are NOT also LPA list eligible
(as the latter are placed in the LPA list).

For information about View and Change, see:

There have always been libraries included in Serverpac that we didn't want
nor need in the LNKLST. Also, I share a serverpac between environments
that don't all run the same product mix now (in the past, we ordered separate
serverpacs, but I finally reconciled it all to a combined order for z/OS 1.8).

All of which leads me to my point: The migration manual tells you about the
new libraries that are needed, so you don't need to rely on looking at or
using the sample that comes on the CPAC PARMLIB. But those samples
are a great reference, not only for PROGxx, but for other "site specific"
or serverpac specific parmlib members. A good example is BPXPRMxx since
the unix file systems that come with your order are probably different
than the ones your friend got.

As far as IPLing is required, the only required data sets are
SYS1.LINKLIB (and the SYSLIB LINKLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.MIGLIB (and the SYSLIB MIGLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.CSSLIB (and the SYSLIB CSSLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.SIEALNKE (and the SYSLIB LINKLIBE data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.SIEAMIGE (and the SYSLIB MIGLIBE data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)

Lack of these data sets will result in a wait state (code 0A with message
IEA716I)..

Basically, it's those data sets that are placed by the system, or required
to be there, in (almost) all circumstances into every LNKLST set.

All the other data sets that have been shown likely relate to a properly
running system with all the various z/OS elements. So they're likely
"necessary" in some way but won't result in an IPL-time wait state

Subject: Re: What's Needed in Linklst?

As far as IPLing is required, the only required data sets are
SYS1.LINKLIB (and the SYSLIB LINKLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.MIGLIB (and the SYSLIB MIGLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.CSSLIB (and the SYSLIB CSSLIB data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.SIEALNKE (and the SYSLIB LINKLIBE data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)
SYS1.SIEAMIGE (and the SYSLIB MIGLIBE data set identified in PROGxx, if
different)

Lack of these data sets will result in a wait state (code 0A with
message IEA716I)..

Basically, it's those data sets that are placed by the system, or
required to be there, in (almost) all circumstances into every LNKLST
set.

All the other data sets that have been shown likely relate to a properly
running system with all the various z/OS elements. So they're likely
"necessary" in some way but won't result in an IPL-time wait state

There's nothing in the log or the output from my tso session. This works

Yes, thanks.
The three lpars share catalogs and once one of the lpars allocates the
dataset, the others enque on it.
I want to put a system symbolic like &sysname in the data set names.

Did you get all done moving down from Wilkesboro?
