Hi,

Did anyone ever run into this problem at a DR site? At our production site we have an automated tape library that looks like this:
TAPELIB1 AL 3584-L22 8 8 8 248 6 113 Y Y
When we bring our LPAR up in DR we are getting an IGD330I Library Logical Type Not Defined. IGD306I Return code=12 Reason code=65
At the DR site we don't have a library, only stand alone tape drives. When I looked at the library in OAM the lib type was UNK.
Any thoughts.

Take a look at DFSMS Object Access Method Planning, Installation, and Storage Administration Guide for Tape Libraries, Chapter 4. Defining and monitoring your configuration, Disaster recovery site considerations.

Dean,

You say you only have "stand alone tape drives" at the DR location. Are they defined as MTL devices (Manual Tape Library)? They would be defined in the I/O Gen. Or are you using the same I/O Gen as your home location and these devices are genned to be inside a robotic device? If the I/O Gen says the device must be in a library, it must be in a library.

Hello,
To make it work, you need to have standalone/MTL drive(s) defined in your IODF.

We have done it two ways for our DR exercises.
One was to have tape drives setup in our IODF that are not connected at home, but are directly connected at the DR site (not in an ATL).
The other was to have a separate IODF for DR that is exactly like the normal IODF, except that it has the OS Definition for the necessary tape drives defined as not being in a library.

In HCD:
On the "Define Device Parameters / Features" panel for the drive(s) for the particular O.S., the parameter "LIBRARY" needs to be set to "No". This has worked, even though the drive(s) actually reside in an ATL.
